The District 161 Board of Education voted to appoint Associate Superintendent Frances LaBella to the Bloom Township School Treasurer’s Board.
The treasurer’s role is to provide effective consolidated financial services in order to maximize a school district’s return on investment. Bloom Township Treasurer Robert Grossi works with nearly 20 dozen school districts on their financial investments and strategies. He also lobbies the legislature on behalf of local school districts.
A new law passed on Aug. 9, 2024, House Bill 305, changed how the township school treasurer’s offices are governed. Under the updated school code, a representative from each district within Bloom Township will serve as trustee. According to board documents, Grossi advised District 161 to select either a school employee or a board member to sit on the Bloom Township School Treasurer’s governing board.
LaBella volunteered to serve as District 161’s representative on the Bloom Township Treasurer’s Board until her retirement in three years. The selected trustee serves a two-year term at the school board’s discretion. Under the new rules, the board must appoint the representative again in two years or choose a new one.
