HIDDEN GEM HALF MARATHON — The fifth annual race will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday on Flossmoor Road near the intersection with Douglas Avenue. About 1,200 runners are signed up to compete, and Flossmoor residents will be outside cheering them on. There will be road closures in neighborhoods throughout the village as the race continues. The finish line is on Sterling Avenue near Flossmoor Public Library. Most roads will be open by 11 a.m. Streets downtown will be closed until about 2 p.m. See hiddengemhalf.com for more detailed information. 

KEGS & EGGS — The post-race celebration is a new event immediately following the Hidden Gem Half Marathon. Food, drink and entertainment will start at 10 a.m. and go until 1 p.m. Saturday in downtown Flossmoor.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY FESTIVAL — Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a “fun-filled day of games, light refreshments and prizes in celebration of Grandparents’ Day” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. A photo booth station will be available.

LATE 80s HIP HOP NIGHT — Rabid Brewing, 17759 Bretz Drive in Homewood, will host music and trivia from 1985 to 1989 from 8 to 11 p.m.

STEM SATURDAYS — Homewood Science Center hosts science activities every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 18022 Dixie Highway.

HOMEWOOD TREESHARE — The program will return after a cicada-related hiatus in the spring. Residents will be able to purchase two trees each in the village hall parking lot, 2020 Chestnut Road, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7. Tree types, costs, and care instructions are available on the village website.

HOMEWOOD FARMERS MARKET — Fresh produce, artisan foods, handcrafted personal care item vendors plus live music will all be available on Martin Square between Ridge Road and Chestnut Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

GOTTSCHALK-THE-WALK — The art event has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. “Watch local artists as they chalk the sidewalk in downtown Homewood into beautiful original art pieces right before your eyes.” There will be free cotton candy and a face painter. Kids can join the fun and create chalk art on the sidewalk on Martin Avenue in front of the Gottschalk House, 18101 Martin Ave.
