Chamber Night on July 25 in downtown Flossmoor not only featured musical performances, as usual, but art work created by four plein air artists in the hours leading up to the event. “En plein air” refers to art created “in open air.” The artists included Christine Leone from Olympia Fields; Carleen Rivera from Munster, Indiana; MaryAnn Trzyna from Frankfort; and Susan Frances Johnson.
The pieces they created during the afternoon were auctioned off during a break in the concert, with half the proceeds going to the artists and half to the Flossmoor Public Art Fund.
The Bel Canto Community Choir opened the musical performances, followed by an Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra brass ensemble. Flossmoor businesses offered food and drink, and organizations had information tables set up along the west side of Sterling Avenue.
The Flossmoor Green Commission gave away 100 swamp milkweed plants in honor of the village’s centennial celebration this year. The annual event was organized by the village, IPO, the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce and the Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle.
