Prepare for a sizzling summer event in Homewood hosted by The Cancer Support Center (CSC) on Saturday, July 27. The Summer Sizzler, Sunshine & Support event promises diverse activities, including games, entertainment from a DJ and a wide range of educational resources.
The Cancer Support Center at 2028 Elm Road extends an invitation to all. The event, from noon to 3 p.m., will foster community bonding and educational topics for everyone. Staff has planned family activities and outings, and the summer event can be a hub for resources for those dealing with cancer or supporting someone going through cancer treatments.
Darnesha Evans, community outreach coordinator, said CSC will have a live DJ, a bouncy house for the kids, face painting and an ice cream sundae table.
“Our vision is to allow the community to come out, meet us, get to know who we are and the services we provide. We want the community to see us as an operating support system for cancer patients before anyone actually needs us,” she said.
The CSC’s mission is to support cancer patients and every person impacted by cancer, whoever and wherever they are. The center provides various programs and services, each created and delivered by professional therapists, counselors, nutritionists and healthcare experts. CSC also offers other resources ensuring comprehensive support.
“Our programs consist of counseling and stress management,” Evans said. They may involve participants in art therapy, meditation, counseling, and more. Additionally, CSC provides fitness and physical wellness through yoga, Zumba, and movement workshops. Evans said CSC has a wide range of programs focusing on body image and support groups for specific cancers.
