Homewood to host second annual Gottschalk the Walk

Painters and artists from across Homewood and Flossmoor will come together to enjoy the community as they chalk the sidewalk during the second-annual Gottschalk the Walk on July 21.

Artists can stop by Martin Avenue between Ridge Road and Kroner Avenue anytime from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to chalk fun, bright designs on a sidewalk square.

Attendees can bring their own chalk or use chalk that the Village of Homewood will provide.

The day will be highlighted with art and fun activities for all ages. Children who attend can create art or play games including Connect Four, Tic Tac Toe and more. They also can enjoy cotton candy or get their faces painted.

Last year’s event featured artwork on 18 sidewalk squares chalked by the Historical Society, H-F High School art teachers and private artists.

Marla Youngblood, Village of Homewood events manager, hopes that the Gottschalk Walk and other events will help drive more people to explore downtown Homewood.

Youngblood is excited to provide neighbors and community members with a fun environment to gather in this summer.

“That’s really my goal in all of this is to bring out our community to come together and for kids to see each other in the summer out of school,” Youngblood said.

Artists interested in participating in the event can sign up at any time until the day of the event.
