A Flossmoor resident told police Friday, June 7, that someone apparently trying to steal their car fired a handgun at their car.
The resident was not injured, but the bullet damaged two of the vehicle’s windows, according to Flossmoor police.
The incident occurred about 3:17 p.m. as the resident traveled on Sterling Avenue. A vehicle followed them and managed to block their vehicle. After the shot was fired, the resident was able to pull around the alleged shooter’s vehicle and escape.
Police said the village’s license plate reader camera in the area showed the alleged shooter’s car was a white Dodge Charger that had been reported stolen from Olympia Fields on Friday morning.
Flossmoor detectives investigating the incident, but no one is in custody at as of Friday evening.
Police said there is no reason to believe the subjects involved are specifically targeting Flossmoor residents, but they recommend residents remain vigilant. Police urge anyone with information about this incident to call 708-957-4500.
