June will begin with two annual events, the Homewood Art & Garden Street Fair and Flossmoor’s Bike the Gem community ride.
The Art & Garden fair opening day is Friday, May 31, from 4 to 9 p.m.

More than 70 artisan vendors are expected for the two-day event, selling handcrafted craft and art items, from jewelry and candles to furniture and small batch foods.
Live music on Friday will feature Big Weekend at 4 p.m. and Not My Dad at 7 p.m. On Saturday, June 1, the fair runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The day’s performers will include Fifty-One Lincoln Band at 10 a.m., The PriSSillas at 1 p.m. and Southside Soul Kings from 4 to 6 p.m.
There will be activities for kids and a variety of food trucks at the event.
Bike the Gem will be back on June 1, giving cyclists a chance to ride more than half the Hidden Gem Half Marathon route.

Flossmoor’s Future sponsors the ride, and organizers stress that it’s a community ride, not a race. Healthy riders aged 9 and up can ride the nearly 8-mile course.
Registration and check-in will start at 10 a.m. in the Infant Jesus of Prague School west parking lot at Flossmoor Road and Douglas Avenue. The ride will begin at 11 a.m.
There’s also a ride for accompanied youngsters that covers the last miles of the Gem route beginning at 11:15 a.m.
The community ride will finish downtown followed by a party on the deck of Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery, including the annual introduction of the Hidden Gem beer.
All riders must register in advance at bit.ly/bikethegem24 and must wear a helmet and sign a waiver. No unaccompanied minors will be allowed to ride.
