The Flossmoor Service League’s (FSL) 66th annual House Walk fundraiser will be Wednesday, May 15, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
FSL provides tours of landmarks in the spring. This year, the focus will be on the architecture of four historic homes in the Flossmoor Estates neighborhood, a centrally located area of town, as the village marks its 100th anniversary.
The FSL reviews grant applications and distributes over $30,000 annually to various charities throughout the south suburbs, according to its website. The group donates to Respond Now, Anew: Building Beyond Violence and Abuse, the Homewood Science Center, Aunt Martha’s, South Suburban PADS, YMCA Metropolitan Chicago South Suburbs and others.
“The organization consists of philanthropic and passionate women who host fundraising events and participate in community service initiatives to benefit those in need,” the FSL states in its mission statement.
While the FSL raises funds through other means, such as an Annual Candlelight Ball, the annual House Walk is one of its primary methods. The walk has been held every year since 1956, except for the pandemic years.
Janine Mlynarcik is chairing this House Walk.
House Walk tickets are $30 and can be obtained through the FSL website. Participants can also buy tickets at UpsaDaisy Boutique at 18100 Martin Avenue in Homewood, Gypsy Fix at 1056 Sterling Avenue in Flossmoor or Art4Soul at 18135 Hardwood Avenue in Homewood.
For an additional $25, House Walk participants will be treated to a buffet at Flossmoor Station after the architectural tour.
Correction: This story originally indicated the Village of Flossmoor was a partner in the event, but Flossmoor Service League is solely responsible for organizing it. The Chronicle apologizes for the error.
