Volunteers gather to give Flossmoor a spring cleaning

Two groups tackled different areas of Flossmoor on April 6 to clean up the detritus of winter and to prepare for spring.

Volunteers organized by Stephanie Wright, the village’s community engagement coordinator, descended on village-owned property just east of the Meijer store on Vollmer Road. The terrain was soggy from recent rains, but bright sunshine helped keep spirits up.

Wright said she likes to focus on that property because quite a lot of litter gets blown there, and because volunteers can do most of their work on the grassy fields, it’s safer than trying to clean up on or near busy streets.

The other group were volunteers with Flossmoor Baseball and Softball. They worked to pick up litter, weed and smooth the infields of the Flossmoor Park ball fields.
