CICADAS — Green Thumb Saturday, sponsored by the Homewood Tree Committee, will provide information about the impending emergence of two cicada broods. Entomologist Allen Lawrance with the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum will present at 9:30 a.m. in Homewood village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road.

IPO CONCERT — The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra featuring principal horn Lee Shirer will perform selections from Bologne, Mozart and Haydn at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The concert will be the premiere of IPO Composer-in-Residence Oswald Huỳnh. Pre-concert festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform in the lobby at 7 p.m. Tickets are available here.

BIKES & BOOKS SCAVENGER HUNT — GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. is holding a scavenger hunt by bike on Saturday that will take riders to the 17 Little Free Libraries in Homewood and Flossmoor. Letters of the alphabet are hidden inside a particular book at each location. Following the clues (posted at 10 a.m. Saturday) and a map of Little Free Library locations, participants will be able to find and take a photo of all the letters to decipher the secret message. The hunt will be about a nine-mile ride. Finish at GoodSpeed, recite the secret message and win a prize. Deadline is 4 p.m.

BARB AND DAN’S ROAD RIDE — Weekly bike ride start at 8 a.m. Saturday from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. There are two groups. One is a no-one-gets-dropped group that follows a 20-mile route. Another group is goes on a longer ride. Helmets required. Lights encouraged. Riders of all experience levels are welcome.

OFF-LEASH BIKE RIDE — A nine-mile ride every Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. at GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. The route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, past Rover’s Run and through Izaak Walton Preserve. No registration. Donuts upon return.

SCOUTS PANCAKE BREAKFAST — Boy Scout Troop 342 and Cub Scout Pack 304 will host their annual pancake breakfast fundraiser from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Abundant Grace Community Church, 18200 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door.

TRAILHOUNDS — 
The program sponsored by the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, invites dog owners to join a free on-lease walk at 9 a.m. Saturday at Patriots Park, 187th and Center Avenue in Homewood for a 4/10th a mile walk, or at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, at Leavitt Park, 1010 Leavitt Ave. in Flossmoor for a 1/10th of a mile walk. It’s suggested walkers bring water for their dogs.

TEENPROV SPRING SHOWCASE — Performances start at 7:30 p.m. at the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway. Tickets are $5 cash at the door. Sponsored by South of Chi.

CHICAGO JAZZ PHILHARMONIC — Orbert Davis’ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic will perform “Soul Migration” at 7:30 p.m. in The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park, conducted by Orbert Davis and featuring vocalist Maggie Brown. The work is a tribute to African Americans who took part in the Great Migration of the 20th century. Tickets are available here.

OPEN HOUSE AT GSU — Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park, will host an open house from 10 a.m. to noon. Learn about the university, the admissions process, funding and financial aid and scholarship options.

FLOSSMOOR LIBRARY EARLY CLOSE — The library will close at 2 p.m. for a village-sponsored event.
