BIKE RIDES CANCELED — Barb and Dan’s Road Ride and Off-Leash Bike Ride, which start each Saturday morning from GoodSpeed Cycle have been canceled this week because of predicted cold weather.
SECOND CHANCE PROM BOUTIQUE GIVEAWAY — Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a chance to find a prom dress from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Private changing areas provided. The event is open and free to any student regardless of need.
LEARN ABOUT THE ECLIPSE — STEM Saturday at the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday will provide an opportunity to learn all about the April 8 total solar eclipse! Juliet Crowell, from the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at The University of Chicago, will be on hand to lead an activity and answer your questions. The science center will give away a number of eclipse glasses on a first come, first serve basis with a limit of two pairs of glasses per family. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
FLOSSMOOR COMMUNITY CLEANUP — Flossmoor Public Works Department and the Chicago Southland Green Committee will host a community cleanup event Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Volunteers should meet in the Meijer parking lot, 3800 Vollmer Road. Children are welcome to participate, but those aged 15 and younger must be accompanied by adults. Sign up here!
HUMANE SOCIETY SLUMBER PARTY — The South Suburban Humane Society will host a fundraising slumber party on Saturday. Follow along on the SSHS Facebook and Instagram pages There will be competitions, surprises and more. The animal shelter hopes to raise $20,000. Donate to the Slumber Party here.
FLOSSMOOR BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL FIELD CLEANUP — Volunteers will work from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday to get the ball fields at Flossmoor Park prepared for opening day ceremonies and games.
YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES FAIR — U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly will host an opportunity fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to for students to connect with year-round and summer opportunities, including employment, internships, volunteering and various service programs for youth of all ages. The event at Hillcrest High School field house, 17401 S. Pulaski Road, Country Club Hills, is free. RSVP here.
SOCCER SHOE DRIVE — HF Soccer Club will host a soccer shoe drive for recreational and travel teams from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Apollo Park in Homewood. Pick up a pair of gently used soccer shoes. Any monetary donations will be used to support all HF soccer club teams.
MINOR LEAGUE ROLLER DERBY — The Chicago Knockouts will host a minor league bout at 6 p.m. Saturday The younger roller derby skaters will compete at the Homewood Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. Accessible seating available and reserved at no extra charge.
