COUNTY ROADWORK IN HOMEWOOD — Homewood announced that Cook County Department of Transportation will be installing fiber optic cable during April on Ashland Avenue from 175th Street to Cedar Road, on Cedar to Harwood Avenue, then on Dixie Highway under the viaduct and north to 175th Street. 

POLAR PLUNGE — Homewood Flossmoor High School has committed along with other schools across the state to participate in the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge via the Cool School Challenge to support the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. The event will be on April 5 at the football field, including slip and slides, ice bath pools and buckets to dump. To date, H-F students and staff have raised $15,600 of the $20,000 goal. POLICE FIGHT DISTRACTED DRIVING — The Homewood Police Department posted on its Facebook page that April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the department will be increasing enforcement aimed at distracted drivers. 

PSC ART EXHIBIT RECEPTION — A reception from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Prairie State College Christopher Art Gallery, 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights, will mark the opening of a new exhibit, “Power,” a feminist exhibition showcasing mixed media works by Lilach Schrag and Ginny Sykes, including Sykes’ 100 Women Project. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday when the college is open.
