The Easter Bunny came out, as did dozens of children and their families for the annual Lucky Egg Hunt sponsored by the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District.
As the temperature barely made the freezing mark on Saturday, March 23, snow flurries started. Easter is a sign of spring, but there was no fooling these kids. Any hint of spring was missing as they waited anxiously, bundled in their winter coats, hats and mittens.
Park staff had spread plastic eggs across Apollo Park in Homewood and had signs designating age groups to keep kids segregated by age. When 10 o’clock came, the kids, trailed by their parents or other helpers, headed straight for the field to collect as many eggs as possible. Special eggs with a marker inside got the lucky winners a prize.
