Flossmoor Veterans Memorial group to host third annual trivia night in March

Flossmoor Veterans’ Memorial (FVM) will host its third annual family-friendly Trivia Night fundraiser on March 15, St. Patrick’s Day, as it prepares to launch construction of the Veterans’ Wall of Honor this spring.

FVM’s Trivia Night will start at 7 p.m. at Flossmoor Community House, 847 Hutchison Road. Advance registration for teams or individuals is required; seating is limited to 10 tables of six participants. The cost is $20 per person or $100 per table. Refreshments are available for purchase, but outside food and drink will not be permitted.

The Trivia Night will be a six-round event, with 10 questions per round. First prize is $150, with the second-place team winning $75.

Round sponsorships are $250, and FVM is seeking raffle basket sponsors.

Round topics will include We Are H-F; Opening Statements (famous first lines from movies); Military Trivia, with questions read by a special VIP guest; Batter Up! (questions about baseball); Famous Military Veterans; and Flossmoor Lore.

Former Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun, president of FVM, said, “Since our launch in September 2021, we’ve raised $110,000 in direct donations and grant support for the Flossmoor Veterans’ Wall of Honor project. Our Trivia Night events have contributed nearly $10,000 to that goal.  We’ve also collected close to 1,000 names of Flossmoor veterans, from World War I to the present day, as part of this project. We hope to raise $5,000 at Trivia Night 2024 and encourage moms, dads and kids of all ages to join us for fun and fellowship. It’s the perfect way for residents to support this community effort and to honor all our veterans.”

FVM also will have commemorative plaza bricks for sale at the Trivia Night. For a $125 donation, a brick can be engraved with the name and service of a veteran for installation in the donor plaza.

In addition to a large selection of raffle items, FVM will have other web store merchandise for sale, including logo sweatshirts, challenge coins, commemorative shovels from the August 2023 groundbreaking and the Historic Flossmoor Sites coloring book.

“We’ll keep residents updated on our fundraising goals,” Braun said. “We welcome every donation and greatly appreciate the community’s support.”

FVM expects to construct the Veterans’ Wall of Honor on a 9,500-square-foot parcel owned by CN and located north of Flossmoor Road and east of the Metra/CN tracks. The Wall of Honor was designed by Flossmoor architect Michael Matthys and will provide a tribute to all current and former Flossmoor residents who are serving or have served our nation’s Armed Forces.

In addition to Braun, other corporate officers and members of the fundraising and communications subcommittees include John Beele, Kristine Condon, Richard Condon, Flossmoor Village Trustee Brian Driscoll, Jim Fornaciari, Josh Grenard, Robert Guilfoyle, Phil Lee, Flossmoor Village Clerk Gina LoGalbo, Tony Manos, Greg Mitchell, Erich Stockwell, and Calvin Young.
