SNOW — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Friday and early Saturday with 6 inches or more of heavy, blowing snow possible. High winds late Friday could create blizzard conditions. On Sunday, the temperature is expected to plunge to a high of 3 degrees. The highs Monday and Tuesday could be in the low single digits or below zero.

SCHOOLS CANCEL IN-PERSON CLASSES — As of 9 p.m. Thursday, Homewood School District 153 and Flossmoor District 161 had announced classes would move to e-learning rather than in person today. Marian Catholic School canceled classes for today.

[CANCELLED] STEM SATURDAY — Folks from the Forest Preserves Of Cook County will be at the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, for STEM Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to teach about insects.

SOUTH OF CHI IMPROV — The improv group will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, hosted by The Drama Group, 330 202nd St., Chicago Heights. Content will be PG-13. Tickets are $10 at the door.

CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT — The fourth annual concert will be from 4 to 5 p.m. at Flossmoor Community Church, 2218 Hutchison Road, and is in conjunction with Flossmoor’s MLK Day of Service project. The free event will feature pre-conservatory student-musicians from the Academy of the Music Institute of Chicago playing works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Barber, and Roumain. Monetary donations will be collected to help Open Access, a 501(c)3 charity, fund weekend backpacks of food for students who face weekend food insecurity in South Holland and Glenwood, and Community Closets located in South Holland and Richton Park. 

HOOPS FOR HUNGER  Homewood-Flossmoor High School will host a two-day basketball tournament Sunday, Jan. 14, and Monday, Jan. 15, in the South Building gym at 999 Kedzie Ave. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected for Respond Now on both days. Games on Sunday, Jan. 14, are: 1 p.m. Stagg vs. Kankakee; 2:30 p.m. Bloom vs. St. Laurence; and 4 p.m. Rich vs. Marian. Tournament will continue on Monday, Jan. 15, with: 1 p.m. Hillcrest vs. Riverside-Brookfield; 2:30 p.m. Thornton vs. Niles North; and 4 p.m. H-F vs. Romeoville. Admission is $15 per person.
