Homewood-Flossmoor High School senior Eva Mathis lit the kinara for the fifth night of Kwanzaa at Flossmoor Park on Dec. 30.
The theme of the fifth night, Nia, represents the principle of purpose and highlights community and the restoration of culture.
Mathis, surrounded by her family, has also served as the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Student Liaison for the Village of Flossmoor since April.
