Agency seeks volunteers for annual count of homeless people

The Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County is looking for volunteers to help conduct the annual Unsheltered Point in Time Homeless Count, an attempt to count every homeless person in suburban Cook County.

During a single night, Jan. 31, volunteers canvass the streets in small groups and attempt to count every unsheltered homeless person. The results of the survey are reported to the federal government in order to secure funds for homelessness programs and create a baseline for continued efforts to end homelessness in suburban Cook County.

Volunteers will receive training before the event.

The Unsheltered Point in Time Count also helps to raise awareness about homelessness and barriers to housing.

Sign up by filling out this form. The closest dispatch station to Homewood and Flossmoor will be County Commissioner Monica Gordon’s office at 3039B W 159th St. in Markham.
