The District 233 school board voted unanimously to approve the 2023 tax levy at a meeting on Dec. 19.
The levy is expected to raise $45.84 million in property taxes for Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
The board also gave their full approval for a resolution to abate $1,995,000 in property taxes. The abatement is a result of the district’s participation in the property tax relief grant program. This particular abatement was an optional action the board took to provide relief to taxpayers.
Through the grant program, the district is allowed to give some taxes back to residents while collecting a similar amount in additional evidence-based funding from the state.
The board’s final action for the night was to approve a memorandum of understanding with the Homewood-Flossmoor Classified Staff Organization. The agreement will allow a faculty member in good standing to retire during the current bargaining session without changes to their benefits.
