A 19-year-old man was in serious condition Sunday after he was shot during an attempted carjacking, according to Homewood police.

Homewood officers and Homewood Fire Department paramedics responded about 7:30 p.m. to a report of a gunshot victim in the 17900 block of Halsted St. 

Officers learned that the victim was shot during an attempted vehicular hijacking. The offenders fled from the scene in an unknown vehicle in an unknown direction, police said. 

The victim was transported to the hospital.

Homewood Police Department investigators, with assistance of the Illinois State Police, are investigating the incident. Police urge anyone who may have information about the incident to call 708-206-3420.
