TRASH PICKUP — Homewood Disposal will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23, for Thanksgiving. Thursday pick ups will take place on Friday. Friday pick ups will take place on Saturday.

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY — Locally owned shops in Homewood and Flossmoor will have specials and fun activities for holiday shoppers all day Saturday.

CELEBRATE THE SEASON — Flossmoor will kick off holiday celebrations at 3 p.m. in front of the Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. Santa will be on hand for photos. A second photo op spot will be located in nearby Flossmoor Park with a vintage truck and decorations. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will offer free kids’ crafts inside the Park Place building from 3 to 5 p.m. Na Aikane ‘Ukulele will bring music and cheer at 4 p.m., then at 5 p.m. members of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Viking Choir will lead a parade of carolers to Flossmoor Park for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting with Santa and Mayor Michelle Nelson. At 5:30 p.m. the switch will be flipped to officially light up the season.

STEM SATURDAY — The Homewood Science Center’s weekly STEM Saturday activities are still on hiatus, but there will be a session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 25 at the science center, 18022 Dixie Highway.
