The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District approved a contract for roof work at Irons Oaks Learning Center, 20000 Western Avenue in Olympia Fields.
At its Nov. 7 meeting, the board accepted a $37,700 bid from All American Exterior Solutions of Lake Zurich. The board agreed to add additional work to the project, including replacing the four skylights that are approximately 20 years old, and adding gutter guards. The work cannot exceed $50,000.
The work should be completed by early December.
Heritage Park reopens
The board also announced the re-opening of Heritage Park at Riegel Road and Idlewild Lane in Homewood.
The $55,000 updates to the park include a zip line and a new climbing set. Much of the old equipment was removed. The swing set stayed and will get a fresh coat of paint in the spring, according to Patrick McAneney, superintendent of parks and planning. He said his department worked with Hacienda Landscaping Inc. The company ordered the equipment and installed it.
McAneney said the project took more time than expected, because “Mother Nature just wasn’t cooperating, so it took time to where the mulch could be laid.” Certain areas in the park also have new safety surfaces.
