A late surge in donations helped a local family not only exceed their $50,000 fundraising goal but place first in a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fundraising competition.
Team Luke, which included Tracey King and her daughters, Quinn and Adele, raised $52,830 for the Chicago Magnificent competition, a 10-week fundraising challenge sponsored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The competition ran from Aug. 4 through Oct. 13. During the campaign, Team Luke’s efforts included operating a lemonade stand at Homewood’s Fall Fest on Sept. 23 and making a presentation on Sept. 26 at the Homewood Board of Trustees meeting.
Team Luke was honored for the accomplishment at an event Oct. 13 in Chicago.
“I have been humbled by the support and donations of businesses and people of our community, though am not surprised,” King said. “There is a reason we chose to raise our family here.”
The five competitors in the Magnificent competition combined to raise $118,000 for the foundation, King said.
