PUMPKIN SMASH — The H-F Park District will host the annual pumpkin recycling event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Coyote Run Golf Course, 800 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. Pumpkin Smash is an annual effort to divert pumpkins from landfills by providing a location for residents to drop off jack-o-lanterns to be composted. Bring candy wrappers, too.

OUTERBELT HIKE — Members of the Outerbelt Alliance, Jay Readey and Kwame Amuh, will guide a free one-hour hike Saturday at Vollmer Road Woods starting at 11 a.m. Start at the Flossmoor Road Bicycle Lot. Wear long pants and hiking boots or other appropriate closed-toe shoes and bring your own water. Register here

CHICAGO FILM HISTORY — “Chicago: The First Hollywood” is the subject of a presentation by film historian Annette Bochenek on Chicago’s early role in the film industry. The event will be at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

IPO FASHION SHOW — The Friends of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra will host the 32nd annual Fashion Show, Boutique and Luncheon “A Symphony of Style” Sunday at Idlewild Country Club, 19201 Dixie Highway in Flossmoor. Fashions on display by Azul BoutiqueBridesmaids Social BoutiqueJAYNE and Kluger Furs as well as a variety of boutique vendors offering clothing, jewelry and unique items. Proceeds benefit Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra’s artistic and educational programs. The boutique will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with lunch at 1 p.m. Purchase tickets here.

D153 SEEKS VETERANS — Homewood School District 153 is inviting veterans or those currently serving in uniform to register for the annual Veterans’ Day celebration Nov. 10 at James Hart School. The event includes a flag raising ceremony, breakfast and school assembly to salute veterans for their service. RSVP here by Friday, Nov. 3.

H-F HIGH PLAY — “One Stoplight Town” is a story about a small town and its various characters. Tickets are available now on GoFan. The play is showing tonight at 7 p.m. in the H-F performing arts center, 999 Kedzie Ave. and Saturday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m.

WREATH SALE — The Cancer Support Center’s annual wreath sale orders are due Nov. 14. Wreaths can be picked up Friday, Dec. 1, at Martin Avenue and Kroner Lane during the Homewood Holiday Lights festival.
