The driver of a hearse was injured in a collision Friday morning with a car police said was reported stolen.
Homewood police and fire units responded to the intersection of 183rd Street and Kedzie Avenue about 8:30 a.m.
Officers learned that a silver Kia and a white Cadillac funeral hearse were involved in the crash. The Kia was reported stolen from Chicago Heights, police said, and allegedly was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Kedzie when it struck the hearse.
The driver of the Cadillac was treated by Homewood paramedics and transported to a local hospital.
A casket being transported in the hearse was ejected during the crash, police said.
Three occupants of the Kia fled on foot. One of them was located and was taken into custody.
Police said Davion Marlow, 18, of Hazel Crest was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting a peace officer, no valid driver’s license, no valid insurance, disobeyed a traffic control device and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The circumstances of the crash are under investigation by the Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit.
Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the traffic crash to call 708-206-3420.
