Jaila Parrish has a seat at the table.
The senior at Homewood-Flossmoor High School was selected to be the student representative to the District 233 school board. She was warmly greeted by board members and the audience at the Oct. 17 meeting.
Parrish ran against two other student government representatives and she received the most votes from the student body. The Chicago Heights resident will serve through this school year.
“I look forward to being a voice for all of the students at school,” she said.
“I thought the first meeting was great!” she told the Chronicle. “I was nervous at first, but it felt like a welcoming and comfortable environment for me. All of the board members were kind and supportive of me and the fellow student representative” Gabe McKinney who will take her place in 2024.
“I can see all of the work that is required for this job, and I’m prepared to take it head on,” Parrish said.
