Crews respond to fire at Home Depot Monday afternoon

Homewood Fire Department crews responded to the Home Depot home improvement store at 17845 Halsted St. in Homewood Monday afternoon after receiving a report about 4 p.m. of a fire in a storage rack.

Homewood Fire Chief Bob Grabowski said store staff and patrons had already evacuated the building when firefighters arrived.

He said the building’s sprinkler system operated well and the fire was quickly extinguished.

“There was more smoke and water than fire,” he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
