Blue Pearl Candles offers unique products and opportunities to learn, according to co-owner Kim Rowe.
At the Sept. 26 Homewood Board of Trustees meeting, Rowe and her co-owner and daughter Terri Rowe, introduced the business during the Meet Your Merchant part of the agenda. Terri is a junior at Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

“We sell soy candles, a little bit different than what you buy commercially,” Rowe said. “We also customize. If you want something special, you can come to Blue Pearl, and I can literally write out a message on the candle.”
The candle-making duo does not stay put in the shop, either. They are often seen at local markets and festivals, and Rowe said they teach candle-making for team building and other corporate events.
“We teach people how to make candles. It is wonderful aromatherapy. It really helps calm the nerves. It also helps uplift the spirit.”
The shop also sells wax melts, fabric fresheners and lotions.
The shop at 17538 Dixie Highway is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 3 to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m.
