Anjel’s Boutique marks 10th anniversary

Over the past 10 years, Towanna Walker and Showanna Butler, the mother-daughter team that owns Anjel’s Boutique have relied on faith, patience and keeping everyone’s style needs in mind.

“Ten years is a milestone, and it’s a wild journey,” said Walker, celebrating the boutique’s upcoming 10th anniversary. The store at 18050 Dixie Highway in downtown Homewood opened in 2013. The ‘J’ in the Anjel spelling was inspired by her father, Jeffrey, who called his three daughters “Jeff’s Angel’s.”

“As a woman of faith and practicing patience with my daughter (who is) my foundation, we’ve been blessed with many milestones, including our most recent expansion,” Walker said.

The mother-daughter duo’s fashion store has grown since it first launched. The boutique’s website helped expand the customer base. In April, Anjel’s Boutique opened a second location in Tinley Park.

“Having the second shop is its own beast, and I was apprehensive about expanding, but my faith led me to embark on this new territory, so here we are,” said Walker.

The company’s website thrived amid the pandemic. Walker said, “I immediately started working with designers on masks during COVID-19, which helped amplify sales and trafficked many to our site ordering and calling to make orders.

“We are grateful to have impacted the community during that time and revamp our store’s site,” Walker added.

Throughout the years, Walker’s and Butler’s cultivating relationships with extraordinary designers, reaching out to suppliers and getting feedback from clientele have helped curate collective pieces that they call “funky and special.”

“Going into this business, I have always loved boutique shopping, and as a Chicago (dance) stepper I wanted to be different from everyone else, not the same. I wanted to be unique and inspire others to do the same,” Walker said.

Clientele will have access to the fall fashion line, including repurposed denim pieces, Nov. 4 in celebrating the boutique’s 10th anniversary with a program at the Tinley Park location.

Butler said the boutique continues to innovate and the store’s fashions evolve.

“It’s important to know your role in this field, what your skill is. I love helping our customers and getting insight to share with my mom when finding special pieces,” she said.

Walker said the store will “continue to cater to clientele fashion requests/needs and provide access to the boutique’s  fall and spring collections at events in April and October.”

Anjel’s Boutique is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on style assessments and personal shopping find Anjel’s Boutique on Instagram, email [email protected] or call 708-799-7419
