H-F HOMECOMING GAME — The game versus Waubonsie Valley will be Friday, Sept. 8, at H-F Stadium. Tickets for the 7 p.m. game are available here.

HIDDEN GEM/FLOSSMOOR FEST — Flossmoor’s Hidden Gem Half Marathon gears up for its 4th edition on Saturday morning. Time to run or to cheer on runners. After the race, stay in Flossmoor for the rest of the day for music, food and fun at Flossmoor Fest.

  • Ways to support public art at the Flossmoor Art Commission booth.
  • Community info at the Flossmoor Community Relations Commission booth.
  • The giant kids’ slide and bungee run on Sterling Avenue.
  • Great food at vendor booths.

COMMUNITY BIKE RIDES — Barb and Dan Lawler’s Road Ride starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. in Homewood. It’s a 25-mile fitness ride. The Off-Leash ride is a 9-mile ride at about 9 to 10 mph that starts at GoodSpeed at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and lasts about an hour.

PAPER SHRED/ELECTRONICS RECYCLING/DRUG TAKE-BACK — State Rep. Will Davis will host a recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon at 1912 W. 174th St. in East Hazel Crest.

STEM SATURDAYS — Free science activities from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Homewood Science Center. at 18022 Dixie Highway.

HOMEWOOD FARMERS MARKET — Live music, fresh produce, baked goods, crafts, food and more from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Martin Square, 18000 block of Martin Avenue in downtown Homewood. 

BOX BATTLE BASHO II — Cardboard warriors invade Rabid Brewing, 17759 Bretz Drive in Homewood, starting at 4 p.m. with the kids’ battle. The adults will take the field next. Come with cardboard armor and weapons, but if you need help, there will be a workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. Use cardboard, glue and tape. Don’t reinforce much, this should be designed to be destroyed.

NAMI FAMILY AND FRIENDS — The National Alliance on Mental Illness will offer a 90-minute seminar from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday that informs people who have loved ones with a mental health condition or experiencing difficulty with mental health how best to support them. It is also an opportunity to meet other people in similar situations and gain community support. This free program will be held at Bremen Senior Center, 15350 Oak Park Ave., Oak Forest.

MORE TRAINS SUNDAY, NO ALCHOL — The Metra Electric District will run extra train service on Sunday, Sept. 10 due to anticipation of larger than normal crowds for the Chicago Bears home game. The Taste of Chicago will be taking place Friday, Sept. 8, through Sunday, Sept. 10.  Alcohol will be prohibited on trains after 7 p.m. on Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
