AIR QUALITY ALERT — Wildfire smoke is expected to move into northern Illinois today. LAST POOL WEEKEND — Lions Club Pool will be open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Capacity will be limited based on lifeguard availability.

D161 BACK TO SCHOOL CELEBRATION — Families and school staff members will gather at 6 p.m. tonight in Flossmoor Park. There will be giveaways and treats. At about 8 p.m. or so the movie “The Super Mario Bros.” will be shown.

HOMEWOOD CHEVY CRUISE ‘N’ QUE — The final Cruise ‘n’ Que event of the season will be held in the south lot at Chevrolet of Homewood, 18033 Halsted St., from 4 to 8 p.m. today. There will be trophies, music, food and classic cars.

TAX ASSESSMENT WORKSHOP — Homewood residents are invited to attend a tax assessment workshop from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road, on Saturday, Aug. 19. The workshop will take place in the board room. Assessors from Thornton Township and Rich Township will be presenting and answering questions for residents learn about the tax appeal process. Also, joining the presentation will be the Cook County’s Assessor’s Office.

DOCUMENT SHREDDING/IDENTITY THEFT PREVENTION — Congresswoman Kelly will hold a privacy fair in Matteson from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Victory Apostolic Church, 20801 Matteson Ave. in Matteson. This event will provide attendees with drive-through onsite document shredding and identity theft prevention literature. The limit for shredding is three bags or boxes per vehicle. Attendees are strongly encouraged to pre-register.
