Homewood District 153 and Flossmoor District 161 and the villages of Homewood and Flossmoor are organizing special events to mark the start of the 2023-24 school year.
Before students in Flossmoor return to their classrooms, the village and school district invite them and their parents to an evening of free fun events and a movie in the park on Friday, Aug. 18. The event starts at 6 p.m. in Flossmoor Park, 2523 Flossmoor Road, with a host of fun activities, giveaways and treats. Stick around for the movie “Super Mario Brothers” scheduled for around 8 p.m. Watch for volunteers dressed as Super Mario characters for photo ops. Bring a blanket, chairs and treats.
District 161 schools are back in session on Thursday, Aug. 17.
In Homewood, the village and District 153 invite the community to a Truckin’ into the School Year-Touch a Truck event from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26. The program at village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road, will feature plenty of big trucks, kid-friendly music from a DJ, interactive games, a rock climbing wall and more.
For those looking for eats, food trucks will be on-site.
District 153 schools are back in session on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
Homewood-Flossmoor High School will welcome freshmen and transfer students on Wednesday, Aug. 16. The first school day for all students is Thursday, Aug. 17.
