THE BEAST — H-F Racquet & Fitness Club’s Beast Obstacle Course will be open from 8 a.m. until noon on Sunday, July 9, in the field behind the club at 2920 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. Kids 6 to 14 years old will have a course with eight obstacles and a 1-mile run; persons 15 and older will have 16 obstacles and total of 2 miles run. Fee is $45. Register here.

FISHING DERBY — Anglers and would-be anglers are invited to the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District and Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center‘s annual fishing derby from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Dolphin Lake, Governors Highway and 183rd Street. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Poles and bait will be available. Anyone 16 and older needs both Dolphin Lake and State of Illinois fishing permits. Win a bike and prizes for the most fish caught and the biggest fish.

IMPROV JAM FOR KIDS, TEENS — South of Chi Productions and 23 Miles South Theatre are hosting a low-pressure free improv jam Saturday in the lower level of St. Paul Community Church, 18200 Dixie Highway. No experience or registration needed. Ages 7 to 12 will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. Ages 13 to 18 will meet from 2 to 3 p.m.

CELEBRITY BATTLE OF THE CHEFS — Dunning’s Market, 1050 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor, will host its third annual Battle of the Chefs at 4 p.m. Saturday to benefit the iCanDream Center. Food, cocktails, live music and the lightning-fast cook-off.

HOMEWOOD FARMERS MARKET — The weekly market will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with fresh produce, baked goods, specialty foods and live music.

BABY EXPO — Franciscan Health Family Birth Center Olympia Fields Baby Expo from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 8, at Olympia Fields Country Club, 2800 Country Club Drive, is a free event for new and expectant parents.
