AIR QUALITY ALERT THURSDAY — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency extended an air quality alert through Wednesday for fine particulate matter because of smoke from wildfires in Canada that is moving into the region. Like Wednesday, air quality is expected to be in the “very unhealthy” range. Active children and adults especially people with pulmonary or respiratory disease such as asthma should avoid long or intense outdoor activity. Everyone else should reduce outdoor activity.

MUSIC IN THE PARK — At 7 p.m. on June 29 the H-F Community Band presents: A Royal Celebration featuring the South Suburban Trombone Choir. Bring a lawn chair to this free event at Irwin Park in Homewood.

THEATRE PERFORMANCE AT H-F — Disney’s “High School Musical” (one act edition) will be presented at 3 and 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 29. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students age 6 through high school.  Tickets are at https://gofan.co/app/school/IL15520.

EXOTIC BUGS — Cross Town Exotics Bug Show at Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave., will give a peep into the world of creepy crawly world of insets and arachnids from 11 a.m. to noon today. The fee is $6 for residents, $8 for nonresidents. Register at bit.ly/3CKSXE7.

FREE ICE CREAM CONES — Flossmoor Station Restaurant and Brewery, 1035 Sterling Ave., will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony from 5 to 7 p.m. marking the summer opening of the Caboose on its south patio. Free ice cream cones.
