Homewood Science Center’s Summer Fest fundraiser is July 20

One of the biggest parties in the H-F community this summer is getting a new location. The Homewood Science Center’s Summer Fest on Thursday, July 20, will be at Idlewild Country Club, 19201 Dixie Highway in Flossmoor.

The evening includes music with DJ Phil, summer food specialties, two drink tickets, STEM games for adults and an online auction that includes Chicago Cubs and White Sox tickets, golf rounds, jewelry, a Thornton Quarry tour donated by Heidelberg Materials. Bidding opens online July 13 and  concludes at 9:30 p.m. July 20.

The Farley Family Charitable Foundation has agreed to match sponsorship donations from $100 to $5,000.

Tickets are on sale through the homewoodsciencecenter.org website. Ticket prices are $60, but will increase to $75 after July 4.

Edie Dobrez, executive director of HSC, said she hopes to use fundraising dollars to hire more staff, make building improvements and purchase new interactive exhibits. The science center recently acquired a ball wall for the STEAM studio using a $10,000 gift from the Dober Foundation.

“We’re serving the community and we hope the community will continue to support us, so we can continue to create spaces like our STEAM Studio,” Dobrez said.
