AIR QUALITY ALERT AGAIN FRIDAY — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has issued an air pollution action alert for today for Homewood and Flossmoor. The alert will be in effect through tonight. People who are sensitive to elevated ozone levels should consider limiting time spent outdoors.

CHIP-IN — The South Suburban Humane Society is a site for the free 24Pet initiative to get pets microchipped on Saturday, June 24. Microchipping is the only reliable, permanent form of identification that can help reunite you with your pet if they ever get lost. Come with your dogs on leashes and cats in carriers for this free service from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the SSHS headquarters, 21800 Central Ave. in Matteson.

FOOD DRIVE — A food drive for Catholic Charities will be conducted from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, at St. John Neumann Parish, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood. This will be a “pop-the-trunk” drive in the church parking lot. Donations of food, and cash or check payable to Catholic Charities. The pantry could greatly use dried fruit, canned Vienna sausage or hams, canned soups, rice, rice sides, pasta sauce, potato sides, cereal, coffee, condiments, such as ketchup and salad dressing, seasonings, snacks, canned olives, nuts and seeds. TAKE A HIKE — A Wetlands Walk at Thorn Creek Nature Center on Sunday, June 25, is open to adults 18 and older. This is a three-mile walk on natural surface trails guided by a naturalist. The nature center is at 247 Monee Road in Park Forest.

PLANT SWAP — Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, is inviting plant enthusiasts to share cuttings, propogations and potted plants during a plant swap event from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 24. Registration is required at bit.ly/3JqQN0a. Participants can bring up to three plants or cuttings to swap.

PRIDE CRAFTS — Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., is hosting a Pride Month craft session for anyone age 5 or up from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room. All supplies provided. Register at flossmoorlibrary.org.
