Flossmoor woos Trader Joe’s — Flossmoor Mayor Michelle Nelson posted on Facebook (see below) urging residents to help make the case that Trader Joe’s should build a store in the village. “Over the years several of us have requested a Trader Joe’s in the South Suburbs. The Village of Flossmoor, Illinois is stepping up our recruiting efforts in the areas of entertainment, dining, and shopping. Jazzin’ in the Park — An evening of music, food and fun, including face painting, games on the lawn, raffles, and option to purchase a taco dinner or charcuterie board tonight at the Flossmoor Community House, 847 Hutchison Road, Flossmoor. Tickets are $50 for adults, $20 for children 12 and under. Proceeds benefit the Center for Food Equity in Medicine. Tickets are available at www.foodequityinmedicine.org.
SSHS seeks kitten fosters — South Suburban Humane Society reports that the at the peak last year it had 160 cats and kittens in foster care. This year, the shelter has 285 cats and kittens in foster care with even more in the shelter waiting to be placed. SSHS officials put out a call Tuesday, June 13, seeking people to foster kittens. For more information, write [email protected]. “You supply the love; we supply the rest including all of the supplies and medical care,” the notice said.
Homewood Historical Society — Regular meeting starts tonight at 7 p.m. in the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

The Village of Flossmoor, Illinois is stepping up our recruiting efforts in the areas of entertainment, dining, and shopping. – The Meijer trade area includes a population of 140,501.
– The average household income is $93,653.
– Trader Joe’s is looking for “store sites in diverse neighborhoods throughout the country.” Our trade area population is 65% Black.
– The Compound Annual Growth Rate for grocery stores is expected to be 2.36% in our area from 2023-2028, which amounts to an additional $21,000,000 in sales.
– That section of Vollmer Road is approximately 1.5 miles from I-57, which has an average daily traffic count of 85,900 vehicles, and may be eligible for the special highway signage program.
– That section of Vollmer Road has an average daily traffic count of 19,200 vehicles and is proximal to a number of hospitals and medical facilities.
– Our community loves to shop at and highlight local businesses!!! Several of our businesses and economic development efforts were recently featured in the widely distributed May edition of Business View Magazine!
