IJP School principal steps down to finish doctorate degree

Charlotte Kelly is taking retirement after serving as teacher and principal at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic School in Flossmoor the past 18 years.

Kelly said she will spend time in the fall working to complete her dissertation for a doctorate degree in educational leadership from Lewis University. She expects she will put her talents to use working at the college level with future teachers or principals.

The past four years, Kelly served as principal at IJP School. She says it was an easy transition having been a classroom teacher at IJP for 14 years.

“I already knew the culture, I knew what we needed. The staff were colleagues so that was a good thing,” Kelly said. Her three children attended IJP and the family’s parish is St. Veronica (formerly IJP Parish).

In 2021, the Archdiocese of Chicago presented the Magis Award to Kelly in recognition of her outstanding leadership as principal.

Kelly will be at her desk at IJP through June 30. She will spend some time this summer in Spain with her daughter and then return to complete her Ed.D. degree.
