This year’s Homewood Artisan Street Fair will kick off the summer event season. The two-day fair will be filled with food and music and will highlight 90 vendors from the Homewood-Flossmoor area and elsewhere.

The fair will be held on Friday, June 2, from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Homewood on Martin Avenue and Hickory Road.

Dodi Wians and Lisa Komorowski, owners of Homewood boutique LouLou Belle, worked to coordinate the vendors that will be in attendance this year.

There will be some returning vendors including potted plants from Zeldenrust Farms, candle makers, high-end jewelry, woodwork and pottery vendors.

“Every booth is a person who is at home, making something to share with us,” Wians said. “So if we support them, them they’ll come back. The vendors are there to share their gifts.”

The fair will have food galore with some returning food vendors and trucks such as Twisted Q and some new additions like Decadent Flavors for attendees to experience. Among the food vendors are El Coyote, SnoDaze, Rabid Brewing and more.

Art from H-F visual art students will be on display and available for purchase. The fair partnered with the H-F Visual Arts Club to provide students with the opportunity to showcase their work.

There will be several activities to engage children who attend including a kids’ craft tent and free yoga classes.  Maker Space partnered with Home Depot to provide craft kits for 50 kids from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. There also will be a caricature artist in attendance on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.

There will be live music featuring local bands throughout the duration of the fair. On Friday, 28 Days will perform from 4 to 6 p.m., and Not My Dad will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, Fifty One Lincoln Band will perform from 10 a.m. to noon, TiMELess will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. and Big Weekend will perform from 4 to 6 p.m.

The fair will also host the conclusion of this year’s public art fundraising project sponsored by Homewood Business Association. Local businesses purchased and decorated 30 planters.

silent auction started Friday, May 12, and will continue until 3 p.m. on June 3. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Open Access in Homewood, a social service agency that helps people connect with health and nutrition programs, job training, mentoring, leadership training and enrichment activities.

The planters will be on display in the windows of the Homewood Science Center annex at 2018 Ridge Road for the next few weeks and then will be on display at the fair until the auction concludes.

“I’m looking forward to having [the fair] be as amazing as it always has been,” said Marla Youngblood, Village of Homewood event coordinator. “I’m looking forward to producing something that everyone continues to love and keep it going in the upward direction that it’s always been.”

The event is free and open to the public.
