The Homewood Public Library is looking for volunteers on May 23 who will help finish a planting project on the library’s grounds at 17917 Dixie Highway.
In October, volunteers worked with Nancy Krieth, a horticulturalist with U of I Extension, clearing out the overgrown circular flower bed at the library. The plants that were dug up were transplanted in the open spaces around the library’s perimeter.
Now it’s spring, the perfect time to plant a new native plants garden, said Library Director Colleen Waltman. Krieth is still an advisor on the project and offered her assistance to the library board on native plants that will work in the confined space.
Waltman said volunteers will start this planting project around 3 p.m. on May 23. Volunteers are asked to add their name to a volunteer list by contacting her at [email protected]. Put “Spring Planting” in the subject line of the e-mail.
