Teens of Jack and Jill South Suburban Chicago will hold a toiletries drive from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, on the west fieldhouse sidewalk at Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s North Building, 800 Governors Highway.
The group invites area residents to drop off full sized packages of tissue, soap, paper towels, textured hair products, toothpaste, tooth brushes, mouthwash, sanitary napkins, deodorant, hairbrushes, combs, detergent and gift cards.
All donations will be given to nonprofit organizations that support Southland teens facing housing insecurity.
According to the National Center for Homeless Education, the number of homeless students in Illinois has fluctuated in recent years but remains consistently near 50,000. U.S. Housing and Urban Development studies find that nearly 40% of homeless people are Black, even though they are about 13% of the population.
