Flossmoor Police report rash of vehicle thefts

The Flossmoor Police Department received reports of multiple vehicles being stolen in the 3800 block of Vollmer Road during the weekend of April 1. The vehicles primarily consist of Kia models and a Hyundai model, in which the offender used forced entry to gain access.

Flossmoor officers reported recovering each stolen vehicle, which includes vehicles stolen from neighboring jurisdictions and discarded within Flossmoor’s village limits. Flossmoor officers are working with area law enforcement partners and business owners and encourage residents to be mindful of vehicle thefts. Flossmoor police will continue its increased patrols throughout the village, especially in areas of vulnerability.

Police remind residents not to leave valuable items inside a vehicle. Residents should park in areas with security cameras. If you witness a crime in progress, police warn to not engage an offender. Call 911 immediately.

Police believe these recent thefts are part of an ongoing trend of theft of specific vehicle makes and models, specifically Kia and Hyundai models made between 2010 and 2021. After starting as a social media item on TikTok, the number of cars being stolen is continuing to surge across the country.

Police advise that if you own a Kia or Hyundai made between the years 2010 and 2021, consider taking extra precautions to keep the vehicle and valuables safe.

If you have any information pertaining to these incidents, please contact the Flossmoor Police Department at 708-957-4500.
