Park district working to expand summer offerings

It may be March, but the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is gearing up for summer.

Stomping Grounds summer camps will be held at three locations. Kids will be segregated by ages with the kindergarten and first graders at Irwin Park; second and third graders at the H-F Sports Complex, part of James Hart School; and fourth and fifth graders at the Racquet & Fitness Club.

The park district hopes to expand its offering for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. In 2022, the program – that included park activities and trips to spots in and around Chicago – was limited due to transportation needs. This year, the park district is planning to open the program to 20 or more kids.

Pool passes are on sale at early bird rates through April 30. The cost is $50 for residents and $80 for nonresidents. Swimmers also can buy a pass for just a day.

The pool will open Saturday, June 3. The nine-week swim season ends Sunday, Aug, 13. Pool hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The park district is also planning to offer a special time for pool parties, if staff time permits. Party hours would be 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Also, the park district will return to pool rentals for parties between 7:15 and 9:15 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Details on how to sign up for Stomping Grounds or the Lions Club Pool are at the park district website at hfparks.com.
