Kids ages 5 to 12 are welcome to give hockey a try between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.
From 5 to 6 p.m. the ice arena will host an H-F Youth Hockey alumni game. This is a free event open to the public.
Throughout the day, staff will provide mini skating lessons. A DJ will entertain and staff will run games.
The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District was forced to shut down the ice arena in November 2021 after its refrigeration system failed. The 15-month project included a new ice making system, updated HVAC and dehumidification system, construction of a building to house the new equipment, a new space for the Zamboni machines and installation of new dasher boards in both the NHL-size ring and the Studio Rink.
The $6.8 million project was under the direction of W.B. Olson Inc. as project manager. Williams Architect was the project architect, and American Arena installed the new refrigerant system.
