Flossmoor Veterans Memorial group to host second annual trivia night fundraiser

Flossmoor Veterans’ Memorial Inc. (FVM) will hold its second annual family-friendly trivia night at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 10, at Flossmoor Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor.

The organization’s fundraising campaign is within $10,000 of its $100,000 goal and FVM officials hope the event will help reach that milestone.

Advance registration for teams or individuals is required. Seating is limited to 10 tables of six.  Cost is $20 per person or $100 per table. Refreshments will be available for purchase, but outside food and drink will not be permitted.

The trivia competition will be a six-round event, with 10 questions per round. First prize is $150, with the second-place team winning $75.  Round sponsorships are $250, and FVM is also seeking raffle basket sponsors.

Rounds will include Karaoke & Beyond; Famous Military Veterans; Pets in the Movies; And Now, Sports!; The Wonderful World of Disney; and Flossmoor Lore.

Former Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun, president of FVM, said, “Since our launch in Sept. 21, we’ve raised $90,000 in direct donations and grant support for the Flossmoor Veterans Wall of Honor project. We’ve also collected close to 1,000 names of Flossmoor veterans, from World War I to the present day, as part of this project.

“Last year’s Trivia Night generated $5,200, and we hope to meet or beat that goal in 2023. We encourage moms, dads, and kids of all ages to join us for fun and fellowship as we work toward raising the funds necessary for the project. It’s the perfect way for residents to support this community effort and to honor all our veterans.”

In addition to a large selection of raffle items, FVM will also have its own merchandise for sale, including logo sweatshirts, challenge coins and the Historic Flossmoor Sites coloring book.

“We’ll keep residents updated on our fundraising goals,” said Braun. “We welcome every donation and greatly appreciate the community’s support.”

FVM expects to construct the Veterans’ Wall of Honor on a 9,500 square foot parcel owned by CN and located north of Flossmoor Road and east of the Metra/CN tracks. The monument was designed by Flossmoor architect Michael Matthys. It will provide a tribute to all current and former Flossmoor residents who are serving or have served our nation’s Armed Forces.

In addition to Braun, other corporate officers and members of the fundraising and communications subcommittees include John Beele, Kristine Condon, Richard Condon, Flossmoor Village Trustee Brian Driscoll, Jim Fornaciari, Josh Grenard, Robert Guilfoyle, Phil Lee, Flossmoor Village Clerk Gina LoGalbo, Tony Manos, Greg Mitchell, Erich Stockwell, and Calvin Young.
