Calumet Area Industrial Commission to host Federal Reserve economist

The Status of The Midwest Economy and Its Manufacturing Sector

The Calumet Area Industrial Commission will host a membership luncheon with guest speaker Thomas Walstrum, senior business economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The event will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 15, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Alsip.

Walstrum is a senior business economist in the economic research department at the
Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. His responsibilities include the Seventh District’s
contribution to the Beige Book, the Chicago Fed Survey of Business Conditions, and briefings
for the Chicago Fed president on Seventh District economic conditions. He also is a
contributing author to the Bank’s Midwest Economy blog.

Walstrum holds a B.A. in economics from Wheaton College and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, with concentrations in labor and urban and regional economics.
