Collecting helping hand donations

About a dozen students from District 153 schools were joined by representatives from the Village of Homewood Monday as they collected items for three helping organizations as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service event.

Despite the wet weather and temperature around 39 degrees the morning of Jan. 16, the students dashed to cars to empty them of food stuffs, toiletries and pet supplies being donated.

James Hart School collected for Respond Now. Churchill School assisted ANEW, an organization based in Homewood that serves families impacted by domestic violence.Willow School collected for the South Suburban Humane Society.
