A CHANCE FOR CHESS – Try out spacer Chess Club for Kids is from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Homewood Public Library. Kids 7 and older can learn the game or sharpen their skills.

CARDBOARD FOR STEM STUFF – Large cereal boxes and paper towel tubes – that’s what Homewood Science Center needs right now to stock up for its STEM programs including Cardboard Creations on Jan. 14. Bring cardboard items to HSC from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. any Saturday.

SPA NIGHT FOR THE YOUNG ONES – Little ladies need self care, too. Sign up girls ages 6 to 11 for the Winter Lock-In: Spa Night, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 at the Irwin Center in Homewood. They’ll enjoy face masks, nail painting, snacks and a movie. $34 for residents; register with the H-F Park District.
