H-F school board gives taxpayers another break

The District 233 school board approved a tax abatement in the amount of $2,076,500 at its December meeting.

The board agreed to reduce taxes by that amount following the district’s acceptance of the state’s Property Tax Relief Grants. The district was required to abate $1.8 million as part of the 2022 tax levy.

This continues with the Homewood-Flossmoor High School board’s trend of reducing taxes that started in 2018. Because of the board’s efforts at property tax relief, taxes have been reduced $12.13 million over the last four years.

“The district because of taking advantage of the Property Tax Relief Grant and the voluntary abatements has kept taxes flat or lower of the last six years of the tax levy,” according to Robert Grossi, Bloom Township school treasurer.
