Flossmoor supports Ingalls tax incentive extension, issues honors, makes appointments

The village board voted unanimously Monday, Dec. 19, to advance a Class 8 tax abatement renewal request from Ingalls for the third floor of the Flossmoor Family Care Center at 19550 Governors Highway and then voted unanimously again to support the extension of that real estate tax incentive.

A representative from Ingalls noted the incentive helps make the property profitable for the company. A similar request for the first two floors was approved in 2017, according to board documents.

Ingalls, as part of an annexation agreement with the village, agreed to make the village whole for Flossmoor’s share of real estate taxes, which is to be upheld with the renewal, according to the report. To date, Ingalls has reimbursed the village for $820,866.25 in taxes, per a board report.

“We’ve had this as a tool for our economic development desires,” Trustee George Lofton said. “We’re aggressively trying to add more to our town. I’d like to see this continue, personally. It makes good sense.”

“Agreed,” Mayor Michelle Nelson added, noting the village appreciates Ingalls being part of the community. “They provide essential and unique services for our community.”

Trustee Gary Daggett added, “I do value having as many options for medical care in our community as possible. From what I’ve seen in the almost 13 years I’ve been in Flossmoor, you’ve been a great community partner.”

Honors

  • Nelson read a resolution honoring Juanita Mitchell for her 111th birthday, which was Dec. 15. Mitchell has lived in Flossmoor since she turned 85 years old.
  • Nelson also read a resolution honoring retiring Police Chief Tod Kamleiter for 26 years of service to the village. He became a Flossmoor police officer in 1996, became a licensed emergency medical technician paramedic, was promoted to sergeant in 2009, then deputy chief in 2013 and chief in 2019.

Appointments

  • Nelson appointed Kevin Dorsey to the Community Relations Commission. Dorsey is a 21-year Flossmoor resident as well as a doctoral candidate focusing on government diversity, equity and inclusion awareness and improvement, Nelson said. The village board voted unanimously to consent to the appointment.
  • Nelson also appointed Jackie Riffice to vice chairperson of the Community Relations Commission. Riffice is a 30-year Flossmoor resident who has served the commission for three years. The village board also voted unanimously to consent to that appointment.
