Flossmoor police investigate drive-by shooting on Saturday (free)

A Flossmoor resident escaped injury early Saturday, Dec. 10, when shots were fired at his vehicle by someone who followed his car when he exited the expressway, according to police.

At about 12:20 a.m., police received a report of shots fired in the area of Governors Highway and Flossmoor Road, where someone shot at the victim’s car after they followed it off I-57 at 159th Street.

Shortly after, a resident in the 2500 block of Brumley Drive called police and reported that her son’s vehicle was shot at by someone from a gray or silver Infiniti Q50 as her son was traveling northbound on Governors Highway near Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

The victim was able to drive away from the other vehicle and later pulled into his driveway. A few moments later, the assailant arrived and fired shots at the victim’s vehicle.

The vehicle was struck several times, but the victim was not injured, police said. Several shell casings were recovered at the scene and will be sent to a laboratory for analysis.

The shooter’s vehicle was last seen traveling northbound on Sterling Avenue.

A canvass of the area was conducted by responding officers, and repeated subsequent follow-ups have been conducted in the area since Saturday.

Flossmoor police are asking residents in the areas of Perth Avenue, Brumley Drive, Dundee Avenue and Sterling Avenue to review home video surveillance footage and contact police at 708-957-4500 with any footage of vehicles passing their residences between 12:15 and 12:25 a.m. Saturday. Police also ask anyone with information regarding this incident to contact them.

There is no indication at this time that there is any ongoing threat to the community, police said.
